![]() I would like to give a lot of kudos out to the developers of Autodesk Graphic. It was incredibly responsive and worked flawlessly with the app’s controls. While the interface was somewhat different from the Mac version, it was still very intuitive and was similar enough that you can move back and forth easily between the two interfaces. Because I was anxious to see how well the Apple Pencil would work with the app, I used it almost exclusively while I composed my illustration. There was no hesitation or stuttering as far as performance was concerned. As far as the testing went, I found Graphic to be a very smooth operating app. I started with just creating some simple shapes and then moved them around layer by layer. When I moved over to the iPad Pro, I decided to start a new illustration. It uploaded to the cloud and was available on my iPad Pro almost immediately. Upon saving the file, I made sure it was inserted in the Graphic folder on the iCloud Drive. I created a simple robot icon that I hope to use with MacSources communications in the future. Having experience within the Adobe creative software, working with Graphic on the Mac was sort of second nature to me. ![]() Because I wanted to test out the syncing abilities, I started out with my MacBook Pro and then moved over to my iPad. I tested the app out specifically for use with the iPad Pro. So, now that I’ve walked through the technical aspects of Graphic, let me tell you a little bit about my personal experience with it. You can push designs out to Facebook, Twitter, Email, or to other apps. Sharing is incredibly easy using the iOS built-in sharing features. You can import images, resources, and other files from any Dropbox folder. It’s optimized for iOS 9 and will allow you to export designs directly to Dropbox. That’s a big part of what makes this app collection so special. Speaking of iOS functionality, Graphic contains all the same features and full vector-based graphic design options as the Mac version. This is great for times that you need to be on the go and start a piece on your Mac, but then need to work from your iPad the rest of the day. In addition to syncing between devices, you can also rely on handoff to pick up where you left off. When you save a file on your Mac, it will be available on your iPad when iCloud updates on your device. In order to ensure your documents are available on all devices, you have to save it to your iCloud Drive under the app’s folder. Graphic features a gorgeous interface that looks beautiful on the Retina display.Īs I mentioned before, Graphic works through iCloud sync, which is ideal for my workflow since I use all the major Apple products. On the Mac, it’s optimized OpenGL drawing for incredibly fast performance and built on a modern 64-bit architecture for optimal performance. All documents are set-up as layered files, which should be familiar territory for any graphic designer. There is a wide variety of shape tools, as well as the option for vector drawing. ![]() makes it easy for you to start from a SVG, PDF, or even a Photoshop PSD document. This means that all of its systems work right along with your Apple OS. One of the greatest things about this app is that it was created specifically for the Mac – not modified for it. If you aren’t, it’s a very intuitive app and set-up for on-the-job learning. If you’re familiar with those applications, then picking up Autodesk Graphic will be like riding a bike. The first thing I noticed when I opened Graphic on my MacBook Pro was that the controls are laid out very similarly to Adobe Illustrator or Affinity Design. I like having the option to create graphics from scratch as well as just editing them. Between web design and editing images personally, I end up doing a lot of graphics work on a daily basis. As a designer, having the ability to create vector graphics on my iPad Pro is a very useful tool.
